Who we are

AltScout is operated by Mavaria, s. r. o. (IČO 57 191 883), based at Tulská 1683/11, 010 08 Žilina, Slovakia. We're the data controller for this website. For anything privacy-related, email us at hello@mavaria.sk.

What data we collect

There's no login and no accounts - you don't hand over personal data to browse AltScout. The data that does reach us is limited to:

• Server logs - standard internet log information (IP address, browser type, and timestamps) generated automatically when you visit, used to keep the site running and secure.
• Search queries - what you type into search is sent to our search backend to return results. We don't tie it to your identity.
• Emails you send us - if you contact us via hello@mavaria.sk, we keep the message and your email address to reply and maintain a record of the correspondence.

Analytics & cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization enabled to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used - which pages are read, where visitors come from - so we can improve it. It doesn't identify you personally.

• Essential cookies keep the site functioning and are set on a legitimate-interest basis - they can't be switched off.
• Analytical cookies power the usage statistics above and are set on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Our lawful basis (GDPR)

We process data under two grounds of Article 6(1) of the GDPR: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) for running, securing and improving the site, and answering the messages you send us; and consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for analytical cookies, which you're free to give or withhold.

Your data protection rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification of data that's inaccurate or incomplete.
• Erasure of your data where there's no reason for us to keep it.
• Restriction of how we process your data.
• Objection to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Portability - receive your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, email hello@mavaria.sk. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Slovak supervisory authority, the Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov SR, or your local data protection authority.

Sharing your information

We don't sell your data. We share the limited data above only with the processors that help us run the site - our hosting and infrastructure providers and our analytics provider - who act on our instructions. Some of these providers process data outside the EU; where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards for the transfer.

How long we keep it

We keep data only as long as we need it. Server logs are retained for a short period for security and diagnostics; email correspondence is kept for up to three years so we can maintain a record and meet our legal obligations.

AltScout links out to the European alternatives we list and to our sources. Once you leave our site, their privacy practices are their own - we're not responsible for how other sites handle your data, so check their policies.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy periodically and may update it as the site evolves. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
